Dawn at the Power Station

Lithgow, Spring 2012
Mt Piper Power Station

Last Sunday at 2AM, I embarked on a impulse road trip with someone I had never met before (Ryan Peter) to drive west and take photographs. We hurtled blindly into the night in a shitty borrowed Suzuki, and ended up three hours outside of Sydney at Mt Piper Power Station. We arrived just as the night began to melt away, first spying the eerie plumes of steam and light streaming into the pitch darkness while driving down the side of a mountain. We got out of the car as dawn broke; the road still and grey, the fields awash in the brightening blue twilight. Eerily surreal structures of concrete and steel stood before us, powering the city we had left behind. I was pretty fucking stoned.
